moving on

have now completed the unit so the next photos show you how I did it.
high lighted with gold and gold stars added

added items that I already had

I hope that bit now looks a bit more realistic,
There are many things you can do to change furniture, sometimes just by adding items it can make all the difference, a simple coffee table looks very plain but add coffee cups, books, papers flowers ect and it starts to look different, try with your items and see.

new week more projects

Morning all
well a quiet weekend for me, catching up on house work and washing, oh how these things get in the way of miniatures, if only I could afford a cleaner, oh well dream on, did not win the lottery so will have to continue doing it myself, well not all of it , i do have help, as I have a mobility problem i do get help every day, buts that's another story.
I keep forgetting to take photos as I am working on my miniatures, so I have now put my camera near by in the hope of remembering.
last week I got a bargain bed and 2 cabinets for 10.00 from my local second hand shop, they are well worth looking in, I have one shop that saves me all the broken jewellery, they get some money and I get more bits to destroy and use, anyway back to the bed, I removed all the bedding, and put on my own creations, I added items to the bedside cabinets to make them more realistic, and I had a wooden screen sitting there, so I stained it brown, added gold and matched the panels to the material I had used for the bed, added trims and I was pleased with the result, this will be going on Ebay.
I put some miniatures on Ebay last week, did not to that well, it seems at the moment people do not want to spend, understandable as none of know what the future is going to be.
back to miniatures, ( I do that go off on other subjects,) I had a unit sitting around and so I decided to customise it and yes this time I have photo's of it before and will continue adding photo's as I continue to do it up.
Double bed, recovered in silk and satin material, and trims

added photo, books, perfume ect, all these items I have made, including the pen, will do a tutorial on pen as it is so easy to do.

complete set

stained and highlighted with gold paint, added the material and trims

TIPS AND IDEAS

morning all
here are some tips and ideas, not all mine, some that I have picked up from the big wide web.

Incense sticks, cigars-burn end slightly to give ash, candles- attach a small bit of black cotton.

Jar, can be made from many items, plastic clear pens-cut down to size, small metal press stud glued to top. straws cut to size, mugs, vanity boxes

Ties, get these from second hand shops for next to nothing, take apart and you have some lovely material, look out for silk ties.

container caps, plant containers, dustbins, basket molds.

Seal edges of material with clear nail varnish, this helps to stop it fraying.

Lolly sticks, shelving, cut up for small boxes, flooring,

Kebab sticks,  curtain poles, rods for stairs- cut and paint, fishing poles

Cocktail sticks, i always have these around, great for using them to glue tiny ares,
walking sticks, umbrella handles, paint with correction fluid for candles,

Clock and watch parts, I have a plastic box full of bits from all sorts of things that I pull apart, its amazing when you look at something you can see something else, as with the watch you can use the numbers as house numbers, door knobs, cases can become serving trays, have a look and see what you think.

Old brooches, take apart, the back can be used as trays, picture frames,

Wooden buttons, plates, bowls, trays

Jewellery holder, if you have a old doll hanging around, take its arm off, ouch!! and remove the metal parts, find a dome shaped button or bead, glue together and spray, black looks good, when dry you can either decorate it or leave it plain, place it on a tray or dressing table, hang miniature jewellery and there you have it, a hand jewellery holder at the fraction of the cost.

there is a lot more tips out there and I am sure you have some that you can add,
I hope you will find these useful, next time I will add some of the web sites that I find really good and interesting.

TUTORIAL, EASY BASKET

To make this easy basket, get a small bit of aida fabric, cut about 1/2" x 9", soak in glue and allow to dry, when dry form it into a circle, glue, place on a piece of white card, glue into place, allow to dry and then cut out the shape of the circle, you should now have a small basket that you can decorate as you want, you can add handles, again cut out a tiny bit of aida and glue, when dry attach to basket, see photos
Simple baby bibs.
for this I used scraps of material that I had lying around,
I drew a circle round a penny, then cut out a half circle for neckline,
see photo,
I then backed the material with iron on fabric facing and using the pattern I had made, cut out the shapes, ( it is easier to cut the shapes this way )
                                                    shape needed for bib
finished bibs

then attach ribbon, lace, pigot to edging, leaving enough to tie around neck.
